To tap into the growing Chinese tourist market, Brazil and Spain have launched innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing communication and service quality for Chinese visitors.
In Brazil, the tourism police force is undergoing intensive Chinese language training to better assist travelers. The program, led by the Ministry of Tourism, equips officers with practical phrases for greetings, directions, and emergency assistance. “Chinese tourists value safety and accessibility,” said a Brazilian tourism official. “Bilingual officers will bridge language barriers and create a more welcoming environment.” Pilot projects in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have seen officers deploy QR codes linking to Chinese – language safety guides, further streamlining support.
Spain, meanwhile, has debuted a Mandarin – language live streaming channel through its tourism board. Hosted by local influencers, the broadcasts showcase destinations like Barcelona and Madrid, featuring cultural insights, travel tips, and interactive Q&A sessions. “Live streaming allows us to engage with Chinese travelers in real time,” said a Spanish tourism spokesperson. “We’ve received overwhelming feedback on virtual tours of the Alhambra and flamenco workshops.” The channel also partners with Chinese OTAs to offer exclusive deals during broadcasts, driving direct bookings.
Both nations are capitalizing on post – pandemic travel trends, with China expected to reclaim its position as the world’s top source of outbound tourists by 2025. “These initiatives reflect a broader shift toward personalized service,” noted a tourism analyst. “By investing in language accessibility and digital engagement, destinations can build stronger emotional connections with Chinese visitors.”
