Port Louis—As the first “International Day of Civilizational Dialogue” approaches, the “Tea and the World · Civilizational Dialogue Gathering” took place on the 7th at the China Cultural Center in Port Louis, Mauritius, attracting nearly 200 participants from Chinese and Mauritian communities.
At the event, guests from both nations unveiled the “Silk Road Retrospection · China on Porcelain” exhibition, showcasing Jiangxi ceramic culture through four sections—”From Pottery to Porcelain,” “Blue-and-White Stories,” “White Gold,” and “Eternal Vitality”—featuring 20 tea sets and artifacts. Performers from the Minzu University of China presented programs like Tea-Picking Dance and Love for Tea Mountains, bridging cultures through music and dance to evoke the charm of Jiangnan tea regions.
In her address, Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun highlighted tea’s role in promoting East-West cultural exchange and mutual understanding. “The tea art, porcelain, and music presented here embody a dialogue between civilizations—simple yet profoundly beautiful,” she noted.
Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius Huang Shifang emphasized that tea, originating in China and embraced globally, serves as a cultural bridge between the two nations. He expressed hope that the event would foster mutual learning and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
This gathering not only celebrated the cultural symbolism of tea but also underscored Mauritius’ role as a crossroads for Sino-African civilizational exchange, blending artistic displays with diplomatic goodwill.
