As the first International Day of Intercultural Dialogue arrives, celebratory events unfold worldwide. Last June, the 78th UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a Chinese-proposed resolution designating June 10 as this annual day, embodying the core principles of the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI). China collaborates with global partners to advance GCI, fostering a diverse world civilization garden through enhanced cultural exchanges.
The day aims to raise awareness of civilization diversity and the value of cross-cultural cooperation, encouraging exchanges to address global challenges collectively. China has taken concrete steps: inviting Central Asian nations to the “Cultural Silk Road” program, proposing a China-Arab Center for Global Civilization Initiative, advancing “Civilizational Mutual Learning Partnerships” with Africa, and hosting the China-Latin America Civilization Dialogue Conference—all anchoring GCI in tangible actions.
Bridging Hearts Through Dialogue
China builds new platforms for inter-civilizational exchanges: events like the “Understanding China” conference, Liangzhu Forum, and World Congress of Classical Studies; research hubs like the China-Hungary Center and Athens Institute for Chinese Classical Civilization; and visa facilitations for foreign tourists, alongside tourism years and cultural festivals. “The GCI shows nations are interconnected,” says Kenya’s UN representative Ababu, praising China’s role in weaving civilization diversity into a global tapestry.
Civilizations Thrive Through Exchange
This Dragon Boat Festival, people from Miluo River to Germany’s Main River raced dragon boats, while a China-Uzbekistan archaeological team unearthed ancient history in Surkhandarya. Precious artifacts from Greece and Mexico tour China, showcasing civilization’s richness. “Dialogue replaces confrontation, and mutual benefit replaces zero-sum games,” notes Wang Fan, Dean of the China Foreign Affairs University, emphasizing that equal exchanges inject civilizational strength into the Community of Shared Future.
Championing equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusivity, China walks hand-in-hand with the world, nurturing civilization’s flowers to brighten the path toward a shared future.
