Hosted by the Chinese Association for Cultural Exchange and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, and organized by the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, the “Dialogue of Civilizations · Bosom Friends” theme event for the International Day of Intercultural Dialogue was successfully held at the China Cultural Center. Aimed at celebrating the first International Day of Intercultural Dialogue, the event promoted the Global Civilization Initiative through music, fostering mutual learning and people-to-people bonds between China and Nigeria. Nearly 300 attendees included Zhang Yi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria; Yang Jianxing, Director of the China Cultural Center; Emim, Representative of the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy; Nigerian lawmaker Yusuf; ambassadors from Cuba, Australia, Iraq, and others; representatives of Nigerian cultural institutions; and students from Abuja.
In his speech, Zhang Yi emphasized that promoting the establishment of the International Day of Intercultural Dialogue reflects China’s commitment to the Global Civilization Initiative, contributing to global inter-civilizational dialogue and world peace. China seeks to strengthen cultural exchange and practical cooperation in tourism with Nigeria to build a high-level community with a shared future. Emim noted that the UN-designated day, proposed by China, provides a key platform for Sino-Nigerian cultural exchange.
The event featured a cultural showcase: an African drum ensemble “Drum Ensemble” ignited energy, while a guitar performance of “Jiangjinjiu” embodied Li Bai’s poetic boldness. A pipa solo “Xiaocheng Yao” painted a serene picture of China’s Jiangnan region, and a Chinese drum performance “Battle Drum” demonstrated resilience. Students from Abuja’s “China Corner” in public high schools danced “Tea-picking Girls” in traditional attire, and the Capital Voice Choir sang “Jade Plate,” expressing aspirations for dreams. Guests praised the event as a symphony of Sino-Nigerian and global cultures, applauding China for creating a bridge to foster mutual understanding and the shared future of mankind.
