Statistics show that Dubai welcomed 18.72 million international overnight visitors in 2024, marking a 9% year – on – year increase and reaching a new historical high. Among them, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Dubai in 2024 totaled 824,000, surging 31% compared to the previous year. In the first three months of this year, the number of international overnight visitors reached 5.31 million, a 3% year – on – year growth.
In recent years, Dubai has been vigorously promoting economic diversification with tourism as a key driver. In 2013, Dubai established a tourism and business promotion agency for brand promotion. In 2021, it merged the Department of Economic Development and the tourism and business promotion agency into the Economy and Tourism Department, responsible for planning, supervision, development, and marketing of Dubai’s business and tourism industries. In 2023, Dubai launched the D33 economic agenda, aiming to make Dubai one of the top three international tourism and business destinations by 2033.
Several recent indicators demonstrate Dubai’s achievements. For example, Dubai has been ranked first as the “Most Popular Destination” by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel guide platform, for three consecutive years. In the latest Smart City Index released by the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, Dubai climbed 8 places to rank fourth.
In the past, Dubai has enhanced its brand image through various promotional activities. Notable events include the cooperation between DJ David Guetta and Porsche to create a promotional video named “Speed of Light” at the Al Maktoum Solar Park, having over 400 skydivers “jump” from the 139th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, and a world – class rock climber walking on a 100 – meter – long wire 224 meters above the ground at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel.
At the event, the Dubai Economy and Tourism Department also announced the launch of activities such as the Summer Shopping Festival, the continuous promotion of sustainable tourism, and the exploration of the potential of eco – tourism, health tourism, food tourism, and wedding tourism markets.
