As the 2024 Beijing Tourism Expo revealed, the pre – summer vacation travel booking season is witnessing a significant boom, with outbound travel reservations exceeding those of the same period last year.
Driven by the UEFA European Championship and the Paris Olympics, the allure of European destinations has soared. Countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy have become top choices for Chinese travelers. Meanwhile, most Southeast Asian travel packages have become more affordable, with some Thai products seeing a price cut of 15% – 20%.
Li Mengran, the media and public relations manager of Utour Group, stated that the number of outbound travel sign – ups for the summer vacation has already surpassed last year’s figures. Short – haul destinations with visa – free policies continue to attract a large number of tourists, and it is predicted that the number of outbound travelers during the summer vacation will double year – on – year. A relevant person in charge of Ctrip also said that outbound travel products are in a peak booking period. The reservation volume of outbound vacation products during the summer vacation has nearly doubled year – on – year, the visa application volume has increased by 1.5 times, chartered car orders have surged by about 70%, and airport transfer orders have grown by 80%.
Air ticket bookings are also on the rise. According to data from Umetrip on June 12, the number of booked tickets for inbound and outbound flights during the summer travel season (July 1 – August 31) is approximately 4.32 million, a year – on – year increase of about 110%. Ctrip data shows that the search index for long – haul (flight distance over 5000 kilometers) outbound travel has increased by 22% year – on – year, and ticket prices have dropped by 12% on average.
Among the most popular overseas countries for summer vacation bookings are Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Singapore, France, Australia, and Italy. The “Singapore – Malaysia – Thailand” route is included, with the reservation volume of Singapore and Malaysia steadily increasing.
In terms of price, most Southeast Asian products this summer have seen a significant price drop. Last summer, the highest – priced Thai tour packages exceeded 10,000 yuan, while this year, the product variety of destinations like “Singapore – Malaysia – Thailand” has doubled year – on – year. The price of Thai tours can drop to as low as 1600 yuan, with an overall decrease of 15% – 20%, and the prices of Singapore and Malaysia tour products have dropped by about 10%. The restoration of flight volume also validates the price reduction. From June 3 – 10, 2024, the flight volume between China and Thailand has recovered to 64.4% (the recovery rate in the first half of 2023 was 24.5%).
In Europe, according to Ctrip data, the reservation volume of travel products to Austria and Germany during the summer vacation has increased by more than twice year – on – year, and the orders for Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and France have more than doubled. In Utour’s summer outbound travel market, the popularity of destinations across Europe is on the rise. France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and some Eastern European countries are very popular. The visa – free policy has made the Balkan region in Eastern Europe a “dark horse” among long – haul visa – free destinations. However, this year, the prices of local reception resources in Germany, France, and other countries have increased, driving up the overall prices of related travel products. More than 60% of products in destinations like Croatia and Slovenia have been sold. American destinations such as Cuba and Mexico have become new choices for Chinese outbound travelers, and destinations in the Caucasus region like Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, as well as Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Kenya, have also attracted much attention.
