As the 2025 Thai New Year arrives, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has announced the “2025 World Super Songkran Festival” will be held in Bangkok from April 11th to 15th. In a bid to offer a more immersive festival experience, the Thai government, in collaboration with global travel brands like Trip.com, will create a month – long festival extravaganza across multiple regions in Thailand throughout April.
Songkran, Thailand’s traditional water – splashing festival and an intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, will break through traditional geographical limitations this year. Major cities such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket will host unique celebrations. By staggering the event schedules, the festival’s popularity will be extended throughout April, diverting tourists from popular cities to lesser – known destinations. The main venue in Bangkok will feature the “Cool Thailand · Grand Songkran” theme event, integrating modern technology with traditional rituals.
To attract international tourists, the Thai government, together with Trip.com and local Thai enterprises, has launched the “Songkran Grand Offer · Exclusive Privileges” package. This includes up to 80% discounts on hotels, flights, and travel packages, along with the chance to win free travel prizes. Prime Minister Paetongtarn especially invites Chinese tourists to participate, stating, “Thailand is fully prepared. The Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transport, and the police will ensure the safety and convenience of tourists. We look forward to everyone immersing themselves in the joy and blessings of Songkran.”
Recently, during a strategic meeting in Berlin, Prime Minister Paetongtarn thanked Trip.com for its long – term support for the Thai tourism industry and emphasized that the government will continuously optimize tourism policies, welcoming enterprises to participate in formulating national tourism strategies. The two sides will leverage the “2025 Thailand Tourism and Sports Events Year” as an opportunity to help Thailand transform from a popular tourist destination to a sustainable tourism benchmark through innovative marketing and digital technology applications. In the future, they will focus on exploring a composite tourism model of “cultural festivals + sports events” to attract a more diverse range of tourists while strengthening international cooperation in ecological protection.
