During China’s five-day ‘May Day’ holiday, 314 million domestic trips were made, marking a 6.4% increase compared to last year. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported that travelers spent a total of 180 billion yuan, or approximately $24.88 billion, during the holiday from May 1-5. This reflects an 8% rise in consumer spending from the previous year.
The May Day holiday, now an annual event, is emerging as a major driver for both domestic travel and consumer spending, signaling strong recovery in China’s tourism sector following the pandemic.
