A China-Europe freight train loaded with auto parts, home appliances and daily goods departed from Erenhot Railway Port on June 1, marking the 1,500th such train to pass through this vital border crossing in 2024. The milestone highlights the growing importance of this logistics corridor connecting China with European markets.
Digital Transformation Boosts Efficiency
China Railway Hohhot Group has implemented precision scheduling and digital upgrades to optimize operations. “Our paperless clearance system enables seamless coordination with customs and border inspection,” said Yang Dongdong, technical department head at Erenhot Station. The reforms have slashed processing time for train handover procedures from 8 hours to just 2 hours.
Strategic Hub Expands Connectivity
As the central route’s key border node, Erenhot now services 73 separate China-Europe freight routes. The port has handled over 19,000 trains since the program’s inception, solidifying its position as a critical link in the Belt and Road Initiative’s transcontinental logistics network. Continued infrastructure improvements aim to further enhance throughput capacity at this vital trade gateway.
