“Tourism Ties: China – Europe Dialogue to Ignite Travel Cooperation”

According to China Daily on June 19, the “World Tourism Alliance·China – Europe Tourism Dialogue” is set to take place from July 3 to 5 in Budapest, Hungary. Co – hosted by the World Tourism Alliance, the European Travel Commission, and the Hungarian National Tourism Office, the event has the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the Hungarian Ministry of National Economy, and the Hungarian Ministry for EU Affairs.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary. This dialogue serves as a testament to the friendly relations between the two countries and the fruits of China – Europe tourism cooperation. As the first international tourism conference held after Hungary assumed the EU’s rotating presidency, it aims to create more opportunities for tourism cooperation between China, Hungary, and Europe at large.

With the theme “Tourism Routes Connecting China and Europe, Moving Towards a Bright Future Together”, the event will focus on topics like “Enhancing Tourism Industry Competitiveness with AI and Driving Sustainable Tourism Development with Big Data”, and “The Role of Art, Culture, and New Media Communication in Marketing”.

It will feature keynote speeches, round – table dialogues and other sessions, inviting tourism – related guests from 35 countries and regions to share their insights. Additionally, the “2023 – 2024 Cross – border Tourism Consumption Trend Research Report” will be released.

China and Europe are important tourism destinations and source markets for each other. In 2023, Chinese citizens made 87 million outbound trips, with over a quarter expressing a desire to travel to Europe and the United States.

China has extended visa – free policies to 12 European countries including France and Hungary, and fully implemented the visa – free policy for foreign tour groups entering the country by cruise, which has significantly increased the willingness of European tourists to visit China. For instance, the number of French nationals entering China this year has increased by 294.71% year – on – year, mainly for business and tourism purposes. This dialogue is expected to further strengthen the tourism cooperation between China and Europe.
