“China Travel” Booms Globally as Shanghai and Guangzhou Offer Personalized Services for Incoming Tourists

The State Council Information Office held a press conference for Chinese and foreign journalists, inviting five immigration police representatives to meet and communicate with them. With the 240 – hour visa – free policy introduced by the National Immigration Administration last year, the long – popular “China Travel” has once again drawn attention. In the eyes of many immigration police officers, the rising trend of foreigners coming to China indicates not only the growing openness of the country but also the reflection of “Rule of Law China” and “Safe China” in the field of immigration.

Yu Tong, a post – 90s police officer from the Baiyun Immigration Inspection Station of the Guangzhou Border Inspection Station, has long worked at Baiyun Airport. She introduced data showing Guangzhou’s appeal to foreign friends. In 2024, the number of foreigners entering through Baiyun Airport’s port reached more than 2.37 million from 195 countries and regions, with a year – on – year growth of 92.6%. In the first five months of this year, the number of foreigners entering through this port has exceeded 1.2 million, with a year – on – year growth of 41.7%. To offer more considerate services, the Baiyun Immigration Inspection Station has formed multilingual service teams and provides 24 – hour – a – day, 7 – day – a – week approval services for foreign tourists with temporary entry needs. It also offers special channels for special – needs tourists.

Cai Baodi from the Exit – Entry Administration Corps of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau has witnessed Shanghai’s transformation into an international city. He and his colleagues have promoted the application of OCR passport information recognition in over 7,000 hotels in Shanghai, and have coordinated with relevant financial departments to verify the identity information of foreigners, facilitating their use of electronic and mobile payments. With the continuous improvement of China’s immigration management laws and regulations, cities represented by Shanghai are building an immigration service system during the “14th Five – Year Plan” period, providing a solid legal and social foundation for enhancing exchanges between China and the world.
